Felines

Background lore for Cosmic Felines

Felines are amongst the most graceful beings on Crypton. Originating on Feline Island, and with a high level of agility, these wondrous beings are extremely nimble and are naturally drawn to the pleasurable aspects of the Crypton societies. It is said that Sunda, the Crystal Elemental, moulded the Felines into existence in his own image and it is not hard to see why. Felines possess a variety of crystalline features, from crystal shard whiskers to hardened crystal tails, that allow them to harness the power of all crystals within the realm.

Like the Elves, though perhaps not quite as skilled, they retain advanced knowledge of how to use magic for evolving the life they see all around them. Felines are inherently mischievous and playful. They enjoy music, dancing, spas and racing. The ‘families’ of the Feline race are groups that have similar interests and have bonded over them. Each has their own unique focus, but all of them share the fact that they are part of the underworld of Crypton. From the black market to the various racing and gambling dens around Crypton, the Felines blur the line with what is accepted by general society.

As many of the Felines operations are delicate, they usually operate in secrecy. The only place where the families can operate openly is in the city of Sundali. This is a haven for anyone who wishes to take part in things that the rest of society may deem as unsavory. It is common for other races who visit Sundali to wear masks or cast a spell of sorts to conceal their identity.

Feline Families

There are several types and families of Felines in Cosmic Universe:

Elado Family

The Elado family are a collection of Felines that have banded together over the shared love of all things exotic and rare. Many of the members of this family love collecting trinkets and rare magical items of various origins. They are inherent hoarders and are extremely protective of their collections, rarely showing them to anyone for fear of losing any of them. The higher ranks of the family run an auction house in Sundali for the most precious items, some of which have dubious origins. But be warned – they do not let their items go cheaply. While very rare, they are also very expensive to purchase. Their most notable characteristic are crystal coated whiskers of varying colors.

Gizo Family

Felines are not known for their scribing prowess, however there are those among the race who have mastered the ability to replicate another’s writing. In addition, some experts among them have the ability to imitate other objects. The Gizo family work from an unknown location in Sundali and offer services to individuals who need ‘official’ documents. With their exorbitant prices, only the most desperate people seek out a Gizo member for this service. Their work is faultless to the untrained eye, however master scribes from the School of Inscription are able to discern the replica from the real thing. The Gizos do not get along with the Elados as the former often try to sell forgeries through the latter’s auction house. It is said that Gizo masters use glasses made of crystal to master their craft, however as their identities are a mystery this is just a rumor.

Korigashi Family

The Korigashi are large, brutish felines with broad shoulders and thick furred bodies. Korigashi members often harness the power of the crystals on Crypton to harden the fur along their spines. While security on Crypton is not normally an issue, there are occasions where the peace is broken and the Korigashi are often hired to enforce the law. Away from the public eye though, the Korigashi also provide questionable loans to those who need it. While never actually committing violent acts, the sheer size of the members of this family is enough to ensure that none cross them. Members show their rank by the expert styling of their spinal fur. The longer the crystal spikes, the higher their rank within the family.

Avida Family

The Avida family members are the most playful among the Felines and always have a smile on their faces. They share a closeness with the Elven Council of Song and often entertain Elves within their gambling dens and spas. The games played range from simple games of cards to extravagant throwing games to hit targets. Their central casino works as their base of operations where many Elves often come to perform. These Elves can occasionally be seen to adorn themselves with crystalline features to blend in with the Feline crowds. However, there is no blending in with the ornate adornments that the Avida family equip themselves with. Their tails are made of hardened crystals and are a myriad of colors. The more elaborate the style, the higher the rank within the family.

Uni

The Uni are less of a family and more a collection of exiled, forgotten Felines. They roam the streets and live in the shadows of Sundali and are never seen unless they want to be seen. Living in the dark underground caverns beneath the city, the Uni emerge only to pickpocket from the wealthy and use it to support themselves. So rarely seen that visitors from other islands call them Shadow Cats. Their fur is usually dark and their padded footsteps quiet, even for a Feline. Extremely nimble and dexterous, they can scale buildings as easily as if they were walking on the ground. Due to the limited light in the caverns and the adaptation they have been forced to make, the Uni harness their natural power over crystals to enhance their sight. This enhancement replaces their eyes with crystals that glow red in the darkness.

Feline Companion

The Winged Lion is the most majestic creature on the Feline island and perhaps on all of Crypton itself. To befriend a Winged Lion is no easy feat and is not to be taken lightly. Many Felines have been gravely injured in their attempts to tame a Winged Lion before they were ready. When a Feline is deemed ready they are sent on a quest to seek out their very own Winged Lion. Some say that the creature will not appear for anyone else, only the intended recipient. Respect must be given to the magical beast and in return respect will be given. It is said the bond between Feline and Winged Lion is sacred and when separated both creature and master will mourn for days unless reunited.
